[Eastern US] December 2018: Consolidated Discussion / Obs

Recommended Posts

@PB GFI, great post and agreed. New Years holds some promise. My thinking is that this will favor North and West of the cities. It's right when the pattern is flipping and too many features will need to come together at just the right time (like November 15th) to yield widespread snow. It worked then. It hasn't worked since then. Anything we get before the pattern has a chance to mature - more toward the end of the first week of January - will be gravy.

I think this down into the big cities , its 6 weeks later , you have an east based block working it's way back , a great ridge axis ,  the N's are much lower and source region is present.

That would make that a widespread  " threat " .

Very far out , so gona need to see where this one goes.

Really not much not to like regarding the pattern as we head into 2019

That the EPS weeklies head toward a classic December-February El Niño/EPO-/AO- 500 mb pattern is quite exciting. Below is a chart showing that pattern:

Overall, things still remain on track for a snowy to very snowy winter in the region.

Wow

Either way, this SSW event appears to be a virtual lock, and it's been awhile since I've been positive about a winter; I'm more interested about prospects than I've been in 4+ years, going forward for this winter. :)
