The best forcing went north of us and then the snj death band developed.

There’s a very distinct warm layer to start at 850-900hPa. That’s why the kuchera is lower and probably more accurate

So a burst of sleet to start.
I'm fine with it.  Puts down a nice layer of ice and helps snow accumulate better!

A nice 3.5 inches of snow from this first system here. When is Saturday's system supposed to start? Overnight?

I freely admit I am struggling with this one. I don't see the thermals on the GFS or Euro supporting snow that far southeast at all. And yet, the short range models look okay and I am hearing through text with @CCB! that soundings look great. I need help on this one. :)

The 6z 3k largely matches what the 12z HRRR is showing across NNJ. The 12z 3k is still nice, but not quite as robust as the 6z. It's a bit warmer at 850mb as well - So now we deal with being right on the line per usual :D

6z 3k = premo.

12z HRRR, very nice:

12z 3k - not bad.

Thank you. Is this for the duration of the event or just at the beginning? So, you're thinking a decent hit of sleet closer to the city?

It's just good to see a general idea that there will be a period of quality snow growth around our parts. I don't know that it'll be easy to accumulate more than 1-2" closer to the city. If I had to make a call right now, 2-5", closer to 2" by you, 3" by me, 5" for the further NW zones. I'd try to make a map, but then I'd have to retire from the public eye.

That’s a close call for me but I don’t expect much here. But then again I wasn’t expecting much this morning. It was nice to see. Still lightly snowing at 32°.
