Am I correct in reading that the SSW this year is much stronger than the one last year? Those reds are more connected & it just looks more robust.

3 headed vortex? Wow.

Experts here, when has this ever occurred that we have sufficient data of and two, we have had 2 SSW events in the same year unprecedented correct or not? Grazi.

It's the same SSW, just another pulse of heat flux. The SSW continues until 10mb 60°N winds go above 0 m/s

It's happened a few times  - 6 or 7 times between 1979 and 2001:

It shows another warming event over Siberia with subsequent split/displacement and severe weakening of sPV. Could be a death blow we’re it to occur
